Independent study in Sabermetrics because it was all about baseball statistics and it combined mathematical formulas to calculate if a baseball player was contributing to his team.
Memorable Experiences in the Classroom:
I enjoyed Dr. Mellinger’s teaching style. Not only did he explain all the material in a way that I could understand but he helped with proofs and explanations. Many times in class I found myself hooked into the discussions we had on how to approach certain proofs and didn’t want to leave when class was over.
Memorable Experiences Outside the Classroom:
My favorite was the math get-togethers. Sometimes there would be parties that the math department hosted which were great fun. I always loved pi day also!
Why Should Somebody Study Mathematics at UMW?
I found that I loved math early on in my school career in high school and it’s what I was naturally good at. I chose to study math at UMW for that reason. Looking back I can honestly say that with a mathematics degree from UMW you can get any job imaginable. People and company’s always want math men and women.
