Billy Ella
Year Graduated: 2009
First Job: Graduate student at The George Washington University
Favorite Course:
Going to go the unconventional route here: History of Math. I was excited to learn about different mathematicians and cultures each day, and it was great fun relive their discoveries through problems and class experiments.
Memorable Experiences in the Classroom:
Really enjoyed Dr. Randall Helmstutler. He’s passionate about mathematics, loves teaching, and is not afraid to tell you how it is when the time comes. He greatly shaped my experience at UMW.
Memorable Experiences Outside the Classroom:
I always enjoyed the department dinners, parties, and talks. It was a great bonding experience to hang out with my fellow classmates, and very neat to see many of my professors outside of the classroom.
Why Should Somebody Study Mathematics at UMW?
UMW offers a non-competitive, friendly atmosphere that puts the emphasis on the students. The approachable professors and small class sizes are perfectly suited for learning mathematics.
