Opportunities for Involvement
Here at UMW there are thousands of opportunities to be involved on campus. From athletic clubs to academic societies, there is something for everyone. As a political science or international affairs student, there are some opportunities that are specifically geared towards you! Check out our pages for involvement options!
Clubs and/or student government are a great way to meet with like-minded students and put what you learned in the classroom into action.
Department Representatives spread their love of the department to incoming students at events such as the major fairs and open houses.
The UMW International Relations Organization discusses current events in international affairs and aims to educate the UMW community about issues in international relations while teaching how to effectively write about and discuss these topics. They also have a Model United Nations team, which travels to and participates in conferences around the country.
UMW Pre-Law has both an academic program and a club. The academic program is for students wishing to do the 3+3 track to GMU law school. Anyone can join the Pre-Law club and learn about the job opportunities for law students and do LSAT prep. They also have a competitive mock trial team!
Pi Sigma Alpha is the national political science honor society. Every spring, the Department of Political Science and International Affairs inducts a number of its best students into Pi Sigma Alpha. Selection for membership in this 600-chapter academic honor society is based entirely upon classroom performance.
