I graduated from Mary Washington in 2016 with my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. I then went on to attend George Mason University for my Master of Social Work with a Clinical Specialization Degree and will be graduating in May 2018. I am passionate about working with children with anxiety and behavior issues and am expanding my knowledge and clinical skills in Play and Family Therapy under the supervision of Cathy Canfield, LCSW for my Clinical Placement. I also have experience providing in-home based case management services to the elderly on Medicaid in Washington, D.C. I am currently a research assistant at Dartmouth-Hitchcock's Department of Psychiatry. I am working on a neuroimaging study regarding schizophrenia and cannabis use disorders. I will have been here three years in September. Last week I passed my certification exam so I am officially a Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) through the Society of Research Associates (SOCRA). Megan Somersall (Heitman)

I graduated from UMW in 2012 and since then I have received my masters in clinical social work with a specialty in children and families. I am currently working as a school based clinician for the outpatient mental health clinic operated by The Children's Guild. This organization is located in Maryland and operates in several schools across multiple counties in the state to place clinicians in identified schools that have a high need for mental health servicing. The school I am based in is a combined elementary and middle school so I am able to work with a wide range of ages and presenting problems. I carry a caseload of 21 clients and I conduct individual, family, and group therapy with students ranging from 5-15 years old. I also teach social skills lessons in elementary classrooms to help foster a community culture in the school of pro-social and emotionally aware behavior. Job Title: Attorney / Judicial Law Clerk After graduating from UMW with a major in psychology, I went to law school at the University of Minnesota, and graduated in 2017.  I am currently clerking for the Minnesota Court of Appeals.  A judicial clerkship for law graduates is somewhat like doing a year in residency.  It is generally a one or two year position (mine is one), and you work hand-in-hand with a specific judge to help decide cases.  My day to day activities include researching and writing recommendations for cases on appeal, and drafting legal opinions explaining the outcome.  Following my clerkship I will be moving to the private sector. Susan Garter

Susan Garter I graduated in 1980 with a B.S. in Psychology (there were 2 tracks at the time, the B.A. as well as the B.S.), and have had a long career in Telecommunications and Information Technology. My first job right out of college was as a research assistant in psychophysics at the Monell Chemical Senses Center in Philadelphia. While I was there, I received a telegram (!) inviting me to interview with Bell Laboratories. I began my career with AT&T at Bell Laboratories in Piscataway, NJ in June of 1981. My first position was as a Human Factors Engineer, researching user-computer interactions and designing user-computer interfaces. I went to graduate school in the evenings and earned my M.S. in Human Performance at Stevens Institute of Technology. After finishing her Master's in Elementary Education at UMW, Kelsey decided to switch career paths and become a Child Life Specialist. She recently started working in this field at the Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU.
