Kristen Wheeler (Matthews)
Kristen remains active in both soccer and volleyball, as both were loves through high school and college. She was the goalie for Mary Washington's club team during her years at school and still continues to play in goal occasionally, but mostly on coed teams in the field. She spent 6 years as a physical therapy tech in a pediatric office in Richmond, Va. where she found a passion for helping kids with all abilities reach past their potential. She currently serves as an attendant for a few of the families she met at during her time as a tech, providing care and companionship to the kids while also continuing to push them towards their goals. I graduated from Mary Washington in 2016 with my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. I then went on to attend George Mason University for my Master of Social Work with a Clinical Specialization Degree and will be graduating in May 2018. I am passionate about working with children with anxiety and behavior issues and am expanding my knowledge and clinical skills in Play and Family Therapy under the supervision of Cathy Canfield, LCSW for my Clinical Placement. I also have experience providing in-home based case management services to the elderly on Medicaid in Washington, D.C. Additionally, I have worked as a Graduate Research Assistant for two faculty members at George Mason's MSW program from 2016-2018. After finishing her Master's in Elementary Education at UMW, Kelsey decided to switch career paths and become a Child Life Specialist. She recently started working in this field at the Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU.
