Pasadena Villa – The Grove

Overview

Pasadena Villa The Grove is a residential psychiatric treatment facility located in Locust Grove, Virginia. The Grove offers a calm and modern environment designed to support healing and recovery for adults aged 18 and older. They provide intensive residential treatment for individuals with a range of psychiatric conditions, including anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, depression, PTSD, schizophrenia, and co-occurring substance use disorders. Treatment is personalized and evidence-based, incorporating therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Polyvagal Therapy (PVT) and Brainspotting. The facility also emphasizes holistic approaches like art and music therapy, recreational therapy, and its Care Through Culinary program, which focuses on nourishing both mind and body through nutritious meals.

Duties

  • Observing and assisting with group therapy sessions
  • Observing admission process and assessments
  • Shadowing psychiatric tech and client support specialist
  • Contributing and participating in case staffing with worker and supervisor
  • Attending and observing weekly treatment team meetings
  • Following the progress of clients and engaging with clients
  • Regular collaboration concerning patients’ discharge planning and current treatment needs/progress with the staff

Pre-Requisites

  • Must meet all UMW and Department of Psychological Science internship requirements.
  • Ability to fingerprint and pass a background check

Assessment

  • 42 hours of work per credit hour (most interns do 3 credits with 126 hours of work)
  • Grade is based on on-campus supervision, agency evaluation, reflective journal, and a professional development portfolio
