Scholarships

The Psychology Department and the University have many scholarship opportunities for Psychology Majors.

There is now a single application for all of these.  You’ve got to be in it to win it!
This site contains the application and details about each scholarship.

The University of Mary Washington Office of Financial Aid has general criteria for all scholarships:

  • Cumulative GPA
  • Psych GPA
  • Number of total credits completed
  • Number of Psych credits completed

The criteria for the particular scholarships are slightly different.  Specific criteria are below:

Emily Cella Scholarship

  • Rising junior or senior
  • Declared major in social sciences
  • The scholarship is renewable
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher

Christopher Bill Scholarship in Psychology

  • Rising senior
  • Declared major in Psychology
  • Strong performance in the Psychology statistics and methods sequence (Psyc 261, 360, 362)
  • Considers independent study experience, and department related extracurricular activities (e.g., Psi Chi, Psyc Reps)

Minnie Rob Phaup Memorial Scholarship

  • Rising junior or senior
  • Declared major in Psychology
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Preference will be given to students with demonstrated financial need

The Dr. Burney Lunch Parkinson Memorial Scholarship in Psychology

  • Rising junior or senior
  • Declared major in Psychology
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Demonstrated financial need
  • Preference for a student certifying to teach

Jarrett and Hazel Small Wilkins Scholarship in Social Sciences

  • Rising junior or senior
  • Declared major in Psychology or Sociology
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Demonstrated financial need
  • Preference given to applicants who document involvement in community service through the Mary Washington College Community Outreach and Resources (COAR) program”  

James C. ’87 and Deborah S. Llewellyn Scholarship in Psychology

  • Rising sophomores or above
  • Declared major in Psychology
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Previous recipients are eligible
