Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice, 15th District Court Service Unit
The Court Service Unit (CSU) is the service arm of the juvenile delinquency court. It is a state agency responsible for intake services, investigations, probation and parole, referral to family counseling, and delinquency prevention.
Duties
- Conducting and writing up investigations
- Providing counseling, supervision, and placement services to clients and their families
- Maintaining regular contact and working relationships with area schools and other referral agencies
- Maintaining case records according to CSU standards and policy
- Keeping a log/journal of internship activities and experiences
Pre-Requisites
- Must meet all UMW and Department of Psychological Science internship requirements.
- Required courses:
- PSYC 231 – Infant and Child Development or PSYC 232 – Adolescent and Emerging Adult Development
- PSYC 201- Social Psychology
- Recommended courses:
- PSYC 211- Psychopathology
- PSYC 242 – Psychology of Personality
- PSYC 346 – Forensic Psychology
- SOCG 351- Juvenile Delinquency
- SOCG 352 – Criminology
Assessment
- 42 hours of work per credit hour (most interns do 3 credits with 126 hours of work)
- Grade is based on on-campus supervision, agency evaluation, reflective journal, and a final paper
