If students are interested in pursuing an internship with the University of Mary Washington HR office, they need to apply directly to them. To do so, submit a letter of interest to jobs@umw.edu. The staff in HR will then see if anyone is able to take on an intern. If so, the potential intern will work with that supervisor to develop a specific list of duties.
As each internship will be different, this internship does not have blanket approval from UMW’s Department of Psychological Science. Therefore, once accepted as an intern, students will have to work with their site supervisor and the UMW Department of Psychological Science internship coordinator to develop an internship proposal to be presented to UMW’s Psychological Science faculty for discussion and potential approval. The proposal will need to follow the format of others that have already been approved, including a description of the organization and the internship experiences, a list of duties, appropriate pre-requisites, etc.
The proposal must be presented no later than the last department meeting in the semester prior to beginning the internship. (The faculty internship coordinator will provide interested students with a list of meeting dates.) Additionally, the written proposal will need to be circulated to faculty at least one week before the meeting.
