This internship involves working with Stafford Commonwealth’s Attorney Eric Olsen. The Commonwealth’s Attorney represents the people of Stafford in prosecuting criminal cases such as felonies (e.g. murder, rape, robbery), misdemeanors, and violations of local ordinances (e.g. traffic offenses).
NOTE: Interns must be able to dedicate 1-2 full days of work to this internship per week.
Duties
- Assisting in court preparation and interviewing witnesses
- Conducting legal research
- Learning about law enforcement procedures
Pre-Requisites
- Must meet all UMW and Department of Psychological Science internship requirements.
- Required courses:
- PSYC 201 – Social Psychology
- PSYC 362 – Research Methods for Psychology
- Recommended courses:
- PSYC 242- Psychology of Personality
- PSYC 346 – Forensic Psychology
- SOCG 352 – Criminology
Assessment
- 42 hours of work per credit hour (most interns do 3 credits with 126 hours of work)
- Grade is based on on-campus supervision, agency evaluation, reflective journal, and a final paper
