Smart Ears offers intensive auditory verbal therapy to infants, toddlers and children with hearing loss with an emphasis on family involvement. The majority of the patients have received cochlear implants or hearing aids and are developing a spoken language.
Intern supervisor Pratibha Srinivasan works all day from Friday to Sunday and often on Thursday so interns need to be able to work on weekends.
Duties
– Observe and assist during speech therapy sessions
– Assist in preparing for speech therapy sessions
– Help create and organize plans for sessions
– Serving as a mentor
– Assist in consulting with prospective patients
– The intern should be available to work at the site on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays
Pre-Requisites
Required Courses:
-PSYC 273 – Cognitive Psychology or PSYC 372 – Sensation and Perception
-LING 100 – Introduction to Linguistics
-PSYC 231 – Infant and Child Development

Assessment
Must meet all UMW and Department of Psychological Science internship requirements.
-42 hours of work per credit hour (most interns do 3 credits with 126 hours of work)
-Grade is based on on-campus supervision, agency evaluation, reflective journal and a final paper
