Pup ‘N Iron Canine Fitness & Learning Center is a dog activity, behavioral training, daycare, fitness, and wellness center. Pup N’ Iron offers a semester-long internship designed to introduce students to the field of canine training. The interns will learn methods of behavioral conditioning such as hydrotherapy, rehabilitation, and the training used in the American Kennel Club.
Duties
- Learning and applying behavioral techniques from the field of canine training
- Assisting in individual training sessions
- Participating in group training sessions
- Assisting with dog day care to keep control of the room
Pre-Requisites
- Must meet all UMW and Department of Psychological Science internship requirements.
- Required courses:
- PSYC 305 – Cognitive Neuroscience or PSYC 274 – Biological Psychology
- PSYC 253 – Fundamentals of Learning and Motivation
Assessment
- 42 hours of work per credit hour (most interns do 3 credits with 126 hours of work)
- Grade is based on on-campus supervision, agency evaluation, reflective journal, and a final paper
