Mental Health America of Fredericksburg (MHAfred) is a nonprofit organization that has identified gaps in the delivery of local behavioral health services and created unique programs to meet these needs in our community since 1955.
Duties
Depending on student preparation and interest and the needs of the agency, the student’s duties may include:
- Attending outreach events to promote mental health awareness and MHAfred programs
- Researching and calling providers to maintain the HELPLINE provider directory
- Developing social media and print handout designs
- Assisting with fundraising events
- Assisting with office administrative tasks
Pre-Requisites
- Must meet all UMW and Department of Psychological Science internship requirements.
- Required courses:
- PSYC 211 – Psychopathology
- PSYC 315 – Foundations of Clinical Psychology
- Recommended courses:
- PSYC 232 – Adolescent and Emerging Adult Development
- PSYC 394 – Psychopharmacology
- SOCG 155 – Social Issues
Assessment
- 42 hours of work per credit hour (most interns do 3 credits with 126 hours of work)
- Grade is based on on-campus supervision, agency evaluation, reflective journal, and a final paper
