Healthy Generations Area Agency on Aging

Healthy Generations Area Agency on Aging provides individual and community services for the elderly in the city of Fredericksburg and the counties of Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania, and Stafford.

Duties

  • Planning programs for the elderly
  • Delivering existing program services
  • Interviewing candidates for services
  • Providing public education
  • Conducting research on the elderly

Pre-Requisites

  1. Must meet all UMW and Department of Psychological Science internship requirements.
  2. Required courses:
    • PSYC 211 – Psychopathology or PSYC 201- Social Psychology
    • PSYC 233 – Adult Development
  3. Recommended courses:
    • PSYC 242 – Psychology of Personality
    • PSYC 315- Foundations of Clinical Psychology
    • SOCG 332- Introduction to Social Welfare

Assessment

  • 42 hours of work per credit hour (most interns do 3 credits with 126 hours of work)
  • Grade is based on on-campus supervision, agency evaluation, reflective journal, and a final paper
