Spelling Bee

music and lyrics by William Finn, book by Rachel Sheinkin
conceived by Rebecca Feldman

The Bee. That glorious time of year when words are spelled, hopes are dashed, weird, yet endearing, awkwardness is on full display, and there’s a lot of growing up to do. For these young Putnam County Spelling Bee contenders, expectations and emotions are sky high as they spell their way to a coveted spot in the National Finals in Washington, DC, and to a greater understanding of themselves and the people who love them. A celebration of the difference in each of us, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is one great big hug of a show attesting to what we know so well—winning may not be everything, but it sure does feel (in a word) good!
