As we take a cautiously optimistic look forward, UMW Theatre has committed to a full theatre season for 2021-2022. The original season announcement from Giving Day 2021 featuring Professor and Chair, Gregg Stull, can be viewed here and we will provide more information as it becomes available. We continue to monitor guidelines and will look to the university administration for further guidance for the greatest success possible in bringing you back to Klein Theatre.

Welcome to the Department of Theatre and Dance, home of UMW Theatre

Ours is a strong community of theatre practitioners—faculty, staff, and students—who create plays and musicals that encourage conversations with our audience. Through classes, rehearsals, work calls, meetings, practical experiences, and strong faculty mentoring, our students graduate from UMW as emerging theatre professionals fully prepared to pursue a career in the professional theatre.

We believe that the strongest way to learn theatre is to make theatre; production is at the center of everything we do. Students have unlimited opportunities to learn and grow in our classrooms and studios while pursuing opportunities in Klein Theatre and Studio 115 (our student-managed black box theatre).

Our alumni work in the theatre and related industries throughout the world. There is no question that a theatre major at the University of Mary Washington, coupled with the extraordinary opportunities available to our students, have launched our graduates into successful careers.
