Rappahannock-Rapidan Community Services

February 9, 2024 by

Rappahannock-Rapidan Community Services provides internship opportunities for students in many different areas. Students can explore the range of services offered by exploring their website.

If students are interested in pursuing an internship, they need to apply directly to the organization. The director of the organization will match potential interns with a staff member based on the student’s interests and the agency’s needs. A specific list of duties is then developed.

Students can apply by searching the current openings. Make sure to select the “Internship” box and click on the link that comes up to get to the application. You will need to submit both a resume and a letter of interest. The letter of interest must specify your area(s) of interest (e.g. mental health, substance abuse, intellectual disability, and/or developmental disability), your desired population (children, adolescents, and/or adults), the term in which the internship is sought, and the length of the desired internship.  Once students are matched with a potential supervisor, they are interviewed, and, if accepted as an intern, a list of duties is developed.

As each internship will be different, this internship does not have blanket approval from UMW’s Department of Psychological Science. Therefore, once accepted by the organization, students will have to work with their site supervisor and the UMW Department of Psychological Science internship coordinator to develop an internship proposal to be presented to UMW’s Psychological Science faculty for discussion and potential approval. The proposal will need to follow the format of others that have already been approved, including a description of the organization and the internship experiences, a list of duties, appropriate prerequisites, etc.

The proposal must be presented no later than the last department meeting in the semester prior to beginning the internship. (The faculty internship coordinator will provide interested students with a list of meeting dates.) Additionally, the written proposal will need to be circulated to faculty at least one week before the meeting.

Duties

These are developed individually for each internship.

Pre-Requisites
