The Department of Psychological Science has the privilege of working in the newly renovated Mercer Hall, located here.  Reopened in 2016 and LEED Silver certified, Mercer was custom-renovated to serve the needs of students and faculty in Psychology.

Mercer Hall was built in 1950 as an infirmary for students.  It has since been renovated as a residence hall, a counseling center, and an academic building.  It was briefly the home of the UMW Honor Council.  In 2014, Mercer underwent renovation to accommodate the university’s growing academic needs and features a computer lab, a vivarium, breakout rooms, a student lounge, and administrative and storage spaces.  A three-story addition is contextually appropriate for the Georgian campus and preserved the facility’s historic status.

Psychological Science is well served by our beautiful building.  In addition to classrooms, Mercer features computer laboratories and purpose-built spaces that we use for animal research, cognitive, developmental, social, and physiological psychology research.

Mercer also contains individual research cubicles, collaborative study spaces, and informal lounge spaces for student use.
