U.S. Representative Eugene Vindman Visits Campus
On Monday, February 17th, 2025, U.S. Congressman Eugene Vindman (VA-07) took time during the U.S. House of Representatives district work week to speak to students in Professor Ranjit Singh’s Introduction to Political Science and Professor Stephen Farnsworth’s Mass Media Politics courses. While on campus, Rep. Vindman spoke to students about his life before being elected, including his former role as a deputy legal advisor for the U.S. National Security Council, his current work on both the U.S. House Armed Services Committee and U.S. House Agricultural Committee, as well as what he hopes to accomplish during his term in Congress. Students were also given the opportunity to speak with the Congressman and ask any questions they had for him.
“I think it is absolutely wonderful how many times our department manages to give students opportunities to have face-to-face contact with people who represent them and with people who are running to represent them, so they get to ask them questions that are germane to students’ concerns.” – Professor Ranjit Singh
Also in attendance was Rep. Vindman’s District Coordinator, recent UMW Political Science Alumnus Nathan Francis (‘24), who returned to campus to help organize the event. Many students spoke to Francis about his journey from being a political science student to a district coordinator.
“It was a great opportunity for Congressman Vindman to connect with the institution and district and to have a conversation with twenty-year-olds about what they are concerned about and current matters of the government and politics.” – Nathan Francis (‘24)
The Department of Political Science and International Affairs would like to thank Representative Vindman and Nathan Francis (’24) for taking the time to speak to our students!
