Opportunity: Senator Kaine Fredericksburg Office Internship
The Fredericksburg Office of U.S. Senator Tim Kaine is seeking talented students to intern for the Fall of 2026. This internship will allow students to see how the Senator’s work helps Virginians throughout the Commonwealth. Interns will have the opportunity to learn more about the legislative process, participate in outreach events, and develop writing skills. They will perform various administrative tasks such as speaking with constituents, drafting correspondence, and processing mail. Interns may also assist in research as well as special projects and events. Preference will be given to Virginia residents and in-state college students.
The Fall 2026 term begins in September and ends in December.
Applicants must be able to interview in person or virtually.
Interested candidates should fill out an application by completing four sections: contact information, cover letter, academic/employment information, and short answer questions/references. Additionally, applicants must submit their resume and unofficial transcript to Devin_Schwers@kaine.senate.gov. We do not require letters of recommendation. All application materials are due by September 6th, 2026. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until all positions have been filled. Applicants are encouraged to submit application materials as soon as possible.
Due to the large volume of applications we receive each year, only the most qualified applicants will be interviewed, and not all will be offered a position.
Please call 540-369-7667 and ask for the intern coordinator if you have questions about the application process.
Application Instructions:
1- Please completely fill out the online application
2- Please email your current unofficial transcript and resume to Devin_Schwers@kaine.senate.gov (please use the subject line “Last name, First Name – Fall 2026 Internship”)
