Study Abroad Opportunities

Group photo of students and faculty in Africa

Our department and UMW offer virtually unlimited opportunities for study experiences outside of the U.S., including specialized classes offered by our department’s faculty that include travel to South Africa and the Caribbean.  We also sponsor many students who spend semesters abroad at universities around the world, including such diverse areas as New Zealand, Ireland, South America, Norway, and many other locations.  Some examples…

Earth and Environmental Science students study – and renew -coral reefs in the Caribbean

UMW marine scientist Dr. Pamela Grothe leads students to Bonaire Island in the Caribbean Sea in her UMW in Bonaire: Coral, Climate, Conservation class.  Students learn diving techniques in advance of the trip, which allows them to fully participate in ongoing coral renewal projects on the island.
