ELC Statement of Diversity

The Department of English, Linguistics, and Communication is committed to

• supporting the UMW Statement of Institutional Values on Diversity and Inclusion
• establishing a culture and membership in the department that reflect more closely the diversity of the world
• fostering an inclusive, nondiscriminatory and accepting climate that is conducive to the well-being and retention of a population of students and faculty regardless of age, disability, economic background , ethnicity, gender, national origin, religious or secular background, race, or sexual orientation.
• pursuing the active recruitment of underrepresented faculty and students: women, minorities, individuals with disabilities , and veterans
• maintaining a departmental committee to advocate the implementation of these goals
