Flywheel Reading Series
The Flywheel Reading Series features literary readings and Q&A conversations with contemporary writers of poetry and prose. Flywheel is supported and facilitated by the Department of English and Linguistics at the University of Mary Washington.
Events are free and open to the public.
Spring 2024 Readings
- February 6: Mathias Svalina (Flywheel Series– UMW alum, published many books, new poetry volume out this December),
- March 19: Jess Alexander and Vi Khi Nao (Flywheel Series– collaborative authors of That Woman Could be You, Blaze Vox, 2022),
Fall 2023 Reading
Ray Levy is reading from his newly published novel, School, Tuesday, Oct. 24, 5:00 PM, in “the Mansion,” at 1201 William Street.
Fall 2022 Reading
The first Flywheel series reading in 2022-23 is scheduled for 5:00 PM on Tuesday, Nov. 15, featuring Laura Bylenok in celebration of her newly published collection, Living Room (University of Nebraska Press, 2022 and winner of the Backwaters Prize in Poetry).

Warren Rochelle is the author of four novels and a collection of short fiction. His recent books include The Werewolf and His Boy and The Wicked Stepbrother and Other Stories, both published by JMS Books in September 2020. He lives in Charlottesville, Virginia, and has just retired from teaching English at the University of Mary Washington.

Tom Cho is the author of Look Who’s Morphing, published in North America by Arsenal Pulp Press and in Australia by Giramondo and shortlisted for multiple literary awards, including the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for Best First Book. Tom also has over 70 fiction pieces published in journals and anthologies. His current writing project is a novel that mashes up fiction, pop culture, philosophy of religion, and much more besides.
