Nicholas Jacobs ’11 Co-Author of Forthcoming Book

Dr. Nicholas Jacobs ’11, PSIA alum (political science major) and Assistant Professor of Government at Colby College, is the co-author with Sidney Milkis of What Happened to the Vital Center: Presidentialism, Populist Revolt, and the Fracturing of America (2022) published by Oxford University Press.

The book has three central objectives:

  • Provides a long historical view of populism, party politics, and the growth of presidential power
  • Traces the joining of executive power and movement politics over the past six decades
  • Argues for a a reconstituted party system rather than greater presidential power
