Entry-level GIS internship opportunity (paid)

To All UMW GISC/GEOC/MSGA students/alumni/ graduate and undergraduate:

This is an announcement for 3 to 6 part-time employment and potential internships* doing airborne LiDAR data pre-processing, including cloud-point classification and quality assessment. This is a preliminary but key step to the construction of Digital Elevation Models (DEMS) and 3D modeling in GIS that is not typically covered by standard GIS or remote sensing courses. LiDAR technology has a wide range of applications, and in the past has been a gateway for UMW GIS/GEOG post graduation employment in government and industry. You do not need to have prior knowledge of LiDAR, you will be trained on the job.

Position description:

  • $16/hr
  • 16-29hrs a week. Starting very soon!
  • Fully remote
  • Requires a personal computer and internet access; you will remotely access the office computers
  • Flexible schedule after initial training; also flexible to facilitate initial training
  • Having taken Introduction to GIS (GISC 200 or EESC 205 or GEOG 250) is strongly recommended, Introduction to Remote Sensing is not, but cannot hurt
