Students who wish to certify to teach Music earn both a B.A. with a music major, and (in the fifth year) a M.Ed. in PreK-12 Education The following additions and modifications apply:
INSTRUMENTAL EMPHASIS
Students licensing in Instrumental Music preK-12 must fulfill the requirements of the music major as well as the following specific course requirements: a) MUHL 268 History of Jazz, b) MUPR 347 Conducting, c) MUPR 349 Conducting Practicum d) MUTH 483 Scoring and Arranging, e) 7 credits of major performance courses, f) 7 credits of ensemble courses, and g) 5 credits of secondary performance courses specified by a Music Department advisor (including instrumental methods courses)
CHORAL/VOCAL EMPHASIS
Students licensing in Vocal/Choral Music preK-12 must fulfill the requirements of the music major as well as the following specific requirements: a) MUHL 268 History of Jazz, b) MUPR 347 Conducting, c) MUPR 349 Conducting Practicum d) MUTH 483 Scoring and Arranging, e) 7 credits of major performance courses, f) 7 credits of ensemble courses, and g) 5 credits of secondary performance courses specified by a Music Department advisor.
