Chance to participate in Preservation Advocacy Day

Each year Preservation Action (PA), together with the National Conference of Historic Preservation Officers, organizes a Preservation Advocacy Day. This year’s event will be held at the St. Regis Hotel in Washington, D.C. on Monday, February 25th and Tuesday, February 26th. Student attendance at this annual event allows them to become more familiar with ongoing and current federal preservation programs and policy. This year, students will be able to join hundreds of like-minded preservationists in Washington to head to Capitol Hill and lobby Congress to strengthen preservation throughout the United States. They are eligible for a discounted registration of $60.00 (regularly $130) to participate in National Preservation Advocacy Day. Registration includes briefing material and legislative trainings for Hill visits, attendance to the Federal Agency update, Preservation Action and National Alliance of Preservation Commissions’ annual meetings. Volunteer Opportunity

The City of Alexandria’s Historic Preservation division will be conducting an architectural survey of the Old and Historic Alexandria District in 2013. This survey will be the first of its kind in the country as they launch a new GIS-based mobile application designed to expedite the surveying process and facilitate sharing of information between the City of Alexandria, the Virginia Department of Historic Resources, and the National Park Service. The City is currently seeking volunteers to complete the field survey.
