Defenders of Wildlife Speaker

Shari Wilcox received her degree in Geography from Mary Washington in 2001 and her Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Geography from the University of Texas at Austin.  She also holds a Masters in nonprofit management from the LBJ School of Public Affairs at UT. Read about her work here. Shari works as the Senior Texas Representative for DC-based the environmental nonprofit organization Defenders of Wildlife. A self-described “cat nerd,” she has dedicated her efforts to the study, conservation and restoration of the native wild cats that call the U.S.-Mexico borderlands home, including the jaguar, jaguarundi, and ocelot. Currently, she leads Defenders’ ocelot conservation team in the Rio Grande Valley and is part of a landmark project to restore jaguars to portions of central New Mexico and Arizona. His current title is "Senior Scientist for Future Targeting Concepts" at NSWC Dahlgren Division; he supports the Submarine Launch Ballistic Missile (SLBM) Weapon System, the Navy's leg of the nuclear triad.  This workforce develops and maintains software that allows the SLBM to be targeted and launched, which requires expertise in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Astronomy, Geophysical environment data, and other areas. … [Read more...]

From Prof. Paul Fallon - Associate Professor of Linguistics, Dept. of English and Linguistics: I am recruiting for the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences Summer Institute (AHSSSI) I am continuing a project on Writing Systems (http://writingsystems.org/) and am hoping to add in maps displaying the geographic areas a script was or is used. I'm looking for a tech-savvy student with initiative and ability to work independently but under my guidance. Students will work during the first summer session (May 15-June 15, 2023).
