Humanities in Action Internship: Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity and University of Mary Washington

In Fall 2020, we announced the selection of the inaugural Humanities in Action intern, Ms. Sophia Maldonado (Classics: Classical Civilization, Art History ‘22); and this past fall, Ms. Josephine Ohene-Okae (Women and Gender Studies ’21) served as the second HiA intern. I’m writing to let you know that we will once again be offering the same internship opportunity in the Fall 2022 academic term to all full-time students majoring in the humanities. Again, special preference will be given to those majoring in Classics, Philosophy, and Religious Studies. Cassie Kimberlin, the executive director of the Greater Fredericksburg affiliate of Habitat for Humanity, and I established this internship to give students with commitments to equity and social justice the opportunity to test their specialized training in managing life’s big questions—questions of fairness, equity, human rights—by helping a major non-profit organization address the issue of affordable housing in the Fredericksburg region.
