Three UMW Earth and Environmental Science undergraduate students presented the results of their research at the Chesapeake Potomac Regional Chapter of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (CPRC SETAC) on 4/17/2023 in Easton, MD. The meeting provided these students with a unique opportunity to share their hard work and receive feedback from governmental, academic, and private industry representatives. After taking part in the student presentation competition (which included both M.S. and Ph.D. students), all three won awards based on their stellar talks. Talia Tanner (EESC, 23) received 1st place in the platform presentation competition, Carolyn Willmore (EESC, 23) received 2nd place in the platform competition, and Elizabeth Tyler (EESC, 23) received 2nd place in the poster competition. Elizabeth is co-mentored by Dr. Ben Kisila (EESC), Dr. Leanna Giancarlo (CHEM/PHYS), and Dr. Tyler Frankel (EESC). Talia and Carolyn are mentored by Dr. Frankel. Due in large part to these experiences, each of these students have already accepted opportunities for after they graduate UMW including a Master’s program at Towson University, a research and discovery internship at FMC Corp, and a full time research assistant position with the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments.
