Volunteer Opportunity

The City of Alexandria’s Historic Preservation division will be conducting an architectural survey of the Old and Historic Alexandria District in 2013. This survey will be the first of its kind in the country as they launch a new GIS-based mobile application designed to expedite the surveying process and facilitate sharing of information between the City of Alexandria, the Virginia Department of Historic Resources, and the National Park Service. The City is currently seeking volunteers to complete the field survey. They anticipate 3 days of training mid to late February and the actual surveying (10-15 days during the week and weekends) will be in March.  In addition to the survey, they are looking for folks to do historical research, and preferable individuals with a background in architectural history.
