Requirements for the English Major

ENGLISH MAJOR, concentration in Literary Studies

Thirty-six credits in English, Linguistics, and Communication courses as follows: Linguistics 101; English 295; five upper-level literature courses; one 300-level linguistics course; one 300-level writing course, one 400-level seminar, six additional credits from the following: English 200, any of the department’s 300- and 400-level courses, and department-sponsored internships and individual studies. ENGLISH MAJOR, concentration in Creative Writing

Thirty-six credits in English, Linguistics, and Communication courses as follows: Linguistics 101; English 295; 15 hours in writing courses, including 302A, Introduction to Creative Writing; 314, The Literary Journal: Professional Practice in Publishing and Editing; and a 400-level Creative Writing Seminar; one 300-level course in linguistics; 3 courses in literature, one of which must be a course that predominantly teaches one genre, as appropriate for a student’s individual writing track; and one elective course in the major.
