UMW alumna Gwynne Mapes (’08) won third place for best student abstract at the 2016 Annual Meeting of the Linguistic Society of America, for her paper “‘Oh, and it’s got to be cut into four triangles, never in half’: the role of negation in Bon Appétit’s ‘Editor’s Letter.'” Gwynne is pursuing a PhD in linguistics at the University of Bern in Switzerland.
