Welcome to the Department of Classics, Philosophy, and Religion, home to three disciplines engaged, respectively, in the study of classical languages and civilization, philosophical thought, and the scholarly study of religion. Here you will find information on our three degree programs, Classics, Philosophy, and Religious Studies, our faculty, and student activities. You can also follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter! The Classics, Philosophy, and Religion department serves as the heart of a Liberal Arts Education at the University of Mary Washington. In our individual and collective efforts, we promote investigation into the historical and social understanding of our past, our current social relations and ethical responsibilities, and conceptions of self. In achieving these goals, the CPR faculty promotes a diversity of ideas, enables and encourages critical thinking and productive dialogue, and promotes informed community engagement in the interest of social justice. The department is authorized by the Commonwealth of Virginia to offer two degrees: Classics and Philosophy/Religious Studies.
Finally, we are home to the Leidecker Center for Asian Studies and the Khatib Program in Religion and Dialogue. |
