UMW Certamen 2017

UMW Certamen 2017 is scheduled to be held on the campus of Mary Washington on Saturday, February 25.

Dear Latin Teachers,

The Classics, Philosophy, and Religion Department and Classics Club of the University of Mary Washington would like to invite you to a regional Certamen on February 25th, 2017 at the University. This is for schools in the Fredericksburg area, or ones that are rather close, such as Faquier, Orange and Stafford.

We encourage all Middle Schools and High School Certamen teams to come to the University of Mary Washington for this fun event!

Registration information:

*   Fees: $15 per team
*   Deadline: February 20th, 2017
*   Check-in/Registration goes from 10:00 A.M. to 10:30 AM on February 25th in Trinkle Hall
*   register online 

Checks may be made out to the University of Mary Washington (in the memo section please write “Classics Club”).  To send in your checks before the day of the Certamen, please address them to

The UMW Classics Club with the support of UMW Classics is happy to present UMW Certamen 2016, April 16, 2016, 10am-3pm, Combs Hall

We are very excited to welcome you to UMW.  We’re expecting many teams (about 100 students) to compete for the eternal glory (gloria in perpetuum)!  Below you will find some information related to the event.  If you have other questions, please do not hesitate to contact the sponsors at uofmwclassicsclub(at)gmail.com.

Parking:  TBA

Agenda

Times after lunch are approximate based on speed of competition, but the whole day should be complete by 3 pm.

10-10:30, Combs Hall TBA (see here for general orientation to the UMW campus and Combs Hall):  A teacher or representative should check in and receive all relevant information

10:30-11:00, Trinkle Rotunda:  Announcements

11:00-12:30, Assigned Rooms:  Preliminary Rounds

12:30-1:30:  Lunch.  We will have chips and water available, but you may want to pack a lunch.  There are numerous event on campus that day so wherever you eat on campus is bound to be busy.  Options include Seacobeck dining hall and the Eagle’s Nest.  Alternatively, you can bring a lunch and buy a cold drink from a vending machine or the UMW Bookstore.

1:30-2:00, Assigned Rooms:  Finals!

N.B.  Trophies are still being produced, so winning teams will be issued certificates until we receive them.
