Position Title: Archival and Curatorial Assistant Intern Background: The Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park (FRSP) includes a variety of historical documents. These documents represent the park's history dating back to the 1930's. They provide insight into past plans and practices that directly affect current resource management projects. The documents are improperly stored and at varying levels of decay. This project will preserve and protect the original documents and provide proper storage. It will also allow for these documents to be easily shared and readily accessible by all staff. In addition, FRSP includes a museum collection of artifacts related to the American Civil War battles in Fredericksburg, VA, and surrounding counties. Volunteering Opportunity at the Valentine Richmond History Center

The Valentine Richmond History Center (http://www.richmondhistorycenter.com/) is about to reopen a renovated facility that has been worked on for a couple of years. The inauguration events will take place during the third week in October and include parties and celebrations for which the museum is looking for volunteers to help primarily with crowd control and passing out programs. In October 2014, FRSP will relocate the museum collection and needs assistance. National Council for Preservation Education Academic Year 2013-2014 Internships with the National Park Service,  & Department of the Interior   The National Park Service and partnering agencies will offer internships during the academic year of 2013-2014.  This notice covers the period January – May 2014.  A separate notice will be distributed in January 2014 for summer 2014 positions.  Internships are for 400 hours (usually ten weeks at forty hours per week) and in Washington, DC except where noted.  Stipends are issued based on a rate of twelve dollars per hour.  The exact starting dates will be determined on a case-by-case basis.  For all internships, computer and word processing skills are desirable.   To be eligible, you must be currently enrolled in an academic program in historic preservation or an allied field, or very recently graduated (degree received December 2012 or later).  Interns are not eligible to work more than 1200 hours in this program; … [Read more...]
