August 25, 2014 by Cristina Turdean Leave a Comment

Spotsylvania County Museum is involved in numerous activities that offer meaningful learning opportunities for student interns in a wide spectrum of museum disciplines and levels of sophistication.  These opportunities exist now, and are expected to continue for many years, as the Museum expands its activities.  Under general direction from County Museum Director and staff, interns will be assigned a project, topic or task for investigation, evaluation, or action in in the field of Collections Management working with the museum’s Collections, Archives and/or Library.  All work will be evaluated, both in dialogue and in writing.  For those students who will earn course credit, a formal process will be used in conformance with the professor’s or college’s requirements.  A successful candidate must be able to work well in a team environment; have above average multitasking skills; have solid verbal/written communication skills; have a working knowledge of Past Perfect museum software and various social media outlets; possess a solid work ethic and commitment to meet deadlines; currently be attending college; and be a self-starter with a strong attention to detail.  Internship will extend for one semester (approximately 3 months).  Interns will be held accountable to work an average of 12 hours per week and will be expected to work at least 126 hours during their internship.  A resume and cover letter must accompany a completed application.  Applications without a resume and cover letter will not be considered.  Unpaid. Continuous.
