Food Studies Minor
“Food is Everything We Are” – Anthony Bourdain
Food Studies is an interdisciplinary minor that provides insight into the relationships between food and all aspects of the human experience. The program offers a wide variety of courses, including classes from the business, natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities. This minor complements all majors offered at the university.
Minor Requirements
Eighteen (18) credit hours from the following list of courses, one of which must be AMST 204 American Foodways, which is offered annually, and IDIS 480, Food Studies Capstone, a 3-credit, independent study under the guidance of a faculty member and approved by the program coordinator. Other courses with relevant content may be substituted with approval of the program coordinator. No more than three (3) courses from a single discipline may be applied toward satisfying the minor. At least three (3) courses must be at the 300/400 level, and no more than two (2) courses in the minor may overlap with any other major or minor.
