Congratulations to Dr. Elizabeth Johnson-Young! She was awarded the prize for Top Student Paper in the Health Communication Division of the National Communication Association. The paper, “Predicting Intentions to Breastfeed for Three Months, Six Months, and One Year Using the Theory of Planned Behavior and Body Satisfaction,” was written and submitted while completing her doctoral studies in the spring of 2015 and was presented at the organization's national conference in Las Vegas in November. … [Read more...]

Among the NOMINEES FOR THE 35th ANNUAL NEWS & DOCUMENTARY EMMY® AWARDS ANNOUNCED BY THE NATIONAL ACADEMY OF TELEVISION ARTS & SCIENCES was UMW alumnus and former English major Alexander Cardia ('07). Dr. Barrenechea’s Recent Accomplishments

Professor Barrenechea has been selected to participate in a 2014 Jessie Ball duPont Summer Seminar sponsored by the National Humanities Center.  The seminar is called “Globalization and the Varieties of Modern Capitalism.” Dr. Barrenechea has also recently published a peer-reviewed entry that forms part of the decennial “state of the discipline” report of the Comparative American Literature Association, contributing a piece on “American Literature” as a hemispheric  object of study is part of an “Ideas of the Decade” section.  Great work! … [Read more...]

Janie Lee was awarded a President's Technology Advisory Council Innovation Fund Grant.
