Individual Study
ARTS 491: Individual Studies
ARTS 491 is designed for senior Studio Art majors to pursue advanced, self-guided research and artistic projects beyond the current curriculum. Enrollment is competitive, with a limited number of spots available each semester. Studio Art faculty hold students in this course to the highest standards, expecting exceptional work.
As a self-directed course, students are responsible for managing their own schedules and maintaining consistent progress. Refer to the department calendar for important deadlines related to the ARTS 491 proposal.
To apply, students must first obtain permission from their major advisor and secure a faculty member to serve as their mentor for the duration of the project.
Proposal Requirements:
All proposals must include the following:
• A one-page summary of your project explaining why you are pursuing the individual study, your plan, and your goals.

• A bibliography of materials (e.g., books, videos, websites) you will use for research.
• A list of materials, department resources, or spaces required for the project.
Once your proposal is accepted. Complete and sign the Individual Study Registration Form.
