Professor of French

Brooke Di Lauro earned her M.A. (2000), M.Phil. (2002), and Ph.D. (2006) in French literature from Yale University. Her specialty is Renaissance poetry, but she is also interested in the interconnections between literature and the visual arts. Her five articles on Maurice Scève’s Délie have appeared in Yale French Studies, Sixteenth Century Journal, and Emblematica among others. Dr. Di Lauro has also reviewed articles for French Studies and has published ten book reviews, primarily for Renaissance et Réforme. She is currently working on a translation of the 445 poems of the Délie, only a tenth of which have ever been translated.
Professor Di Lauro sits on the board of the Fredericksburg-Fréjus Sister City Association, and every summer she runs a month-long study abroad program in Aix-en-Provence and Paris. Since the fall of 2024 Dr. Di Lauro has served as well as Associate Director of the UMW Honors Program.
