Luke Johnson’s New Publications

Congratulations to Professor Johnson! He has recently published the following poems: “Camp” in Beloit Poetry Journal, “Because My Father Does Not Mean to Lie” and “Triptych for Sage Chapel” in New South, and “Priest of the Sloop Tavern” in Poetry Northwest.

Professor Rafferty Publishes Essays

Colin Rafferty’s essay “This Day in History” will be published this fall by Sou’wester.  This comes on the heels of other recent publications:  “Boys Least Likely To” was published in  The Normal School last spring, and the essay “Assassin’s Bullet (#25)” was just published in the online journal  Shadowbox.  Congratulations!

Pineda’s Novel Garners Attention

Jon Pineda’s newly released novel, Apology, has received a starred review from Library Journal, and is being featured both at George Mason’s Fall for the Book Festival and the Humanities Tennessee Southern Festival of the Book.  Professor Pineda will read from the novel at Thursday Poems on 9/26.

Academy of American Poets Prize!

Congratulations to Emily Humberson and Josh Roberts, who were chosen as recipients of the 2013 Poetry Society of Virginia’s UMW Poetry Prize from the Academy of American Poets!  And congratulations as well to Lizzie Greene, who was named as the runner-up.  All winners were chosen by poet Catherine McDonald.
