Ben LaBreche’s research focuses primarily on modernity and its problems, including issues like liberty, rationality, selfhood, and sexuality. He is particularly interested in the seventeenth century as a seminal moment when these issues took on modern forms that influence personal, social, and political life today. In addition to British literature of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, Dr. LaBreche writes and teaches about political theory, history, gender, and French and classical literature.  His most frequently taught courses include Sex, Love, and Power in Renaissance England, British Literature to 1800, John Milton, and Writing About Liberty.
