Data Science Minor
The minor in Data Science teaches principles and builds skills in the science of how and why we use data. Decision making across all levels is increasingly shifting away from subjective human judgment and expert opinion and is being replaced by superior evidence-based approaches driven by data and analytical models. The minor in Data Science is designed to provide students with the core fundamental coursework in mathematics, computer science, and business to succeed in this area.
The minor includes an advanced statistics course, two core courses in data science, and then two electives. Electives include coursework in data science such as data mining, modeling and simulation. They also include specialized coursework in other fields such as business, political science or economics to allow students in those fields to count those course towards the minor.
Please consult the UMW Academic Catalog Entry for the minor for specific and up-to-date major requirements.
