Prior to attending UVA, he earned a BS in Biology from the College of William and Mary and conducted research investigating mechanisms that suspension-feeding fish use to filter food from water.

He joined the UMW faculty in 2013. He coordinates the introductory biology program as well as the department’s experiential learning activities (BIOL 000). Every year, he teaches BIOL 121: Biological Concepts and BIOL 132: Organism Diversity and Function. His research interests focus on science pedagogy and the development of biology labs that more authentically incorporate research processes and quantitative analysis.
