Sierra Heiderman wins Lutterbie Outstanding Senior Service Award.

Sierra Heiderman, graduating senior with a major in English, has won the 2019-2020 Carlton R. Lutterbie Jr. Outstanding Senior Service Award for the Department of English, Linguistics, and Communication. Heiderman was recognized for her work as a Department of ELC social media intern and student aide over several semesters.

The Carlton R. Lutterbie Jr. Outstanding Senior Service Award is one of two ways that the Department of English, Linguistics, and Communication commemorates former professor Carleton R. Lutterbie Jr. There is also the Carleton R. Lutterbie Jr. Scholarship, established in 2005, which has assisted numerous English majors, including, most recently, December 2019 graduate James Vaughan. The award and the scholarship reflect the esteem in which Carleton R. Lutterbie Jr. was held by his family, friends, and colleagues. He began serving on the English faculty of Mary Washington College in 1967 and was serving as chair of the Department of (then) English, Linguistics, and Speech when he died in 1988. The Department thanks Lucy Mancuso Lutterbie, whose generosity to the Department has been unfailing, for endowing the award and the scholarship in her husband’s memory.
