Dr. Agrawal studies protein trafficking in protist parasites and mammalian cells. She uses the CRISPR-cas9 system to genetically manipulate genes and understand the role novel genes and pathways.

She has also worked to develop classroom interventions aimed at improving visual literacy in students. She has developed active learning lessons using Augmented reality to study the structure and function of proteins and nucleic acids in her classes. Her ongoing research uses programs like UNITY and Bioblender to develop better models for interactive learning in Cell and molecular classes.
