Walk In Charles Darwin’s Footsteps
In BIOL 423-Ecology and Evolution in the Galapagos Islands (4 credits), students immerse themselves in the Galapagos Islands’ unique flora and fauna and special place in history as a living laboratory for ecology and evolution research. While in the islands, students experience breathtaking closeup encounters with giant tortoises, sea lions, marine iguanas and Galapagos penguins, hike along one of the world’s largest volcanic calderas, and visit the Charles Darwin Research Station. Explore Panama’s Incredible Biological Diversity
In BIOL 424-Tropical Ecology (4 credits) (4 credits), students survey the earth’s tropical ecosystems and understand the unique factors that make them tick. Additionally, they explore the special conservation challenges facing biologically diverse tropical countries. Spring break takes them to Costa Rica and its stunning beaches, rainforests, and high elevation cloud forests. Colorful birds, monkeys, frogs and other wildlife abound. Costa Rica represents 0.03% of the world’s surface area, but 5% of its biological diversity! Students enjoy enriching educational activities at Tirimbina Field Station, La Selva Biological Reserve, Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve and Manuel Antonio National Park, as well as some free time at La Fortuna’s world-famous hot springs.
