- MAJOR ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS:
The Studio Art Assessment Program is a two-phase system:- Major Portfolio
- Students should complete this step as soon as they declare the major. Do not worry about the level or quality of the work; our goal is to document “entry-level” artwork. The Major Portfolio is also prerequisite for ARTS 474 and the Senior Exhibition/Senior Exit Portfolio. Failure to complete the Major Portfolio will prevent you from enrolling in ARTS 474.
- The portfolio consists of the Major Portfolio Cover Sheet and 10 thumbnail images of artwork completed at UMW. The work can be from 100-200 level courses and should be accompanied by an image list with the title, date, medium(s) and dimensions for each piece.
- The completed major portfolio should be submitted to Prof. McMillan (jmcmilla@umw.edu) before the spring semester of a student’s junior year.
- Senior Exhibition or Exit Portfolio
- The Senior Exhibition is a group show organized by the graduating studio art majors and the Studio Art faculty.
- Students who are unable to participate in the senior exhibition complete a Senior Exit Portfolio instead, similar to the major portfolio but comprised of 300-400 level artwork
