The BSN degree requires 120 total credits. Incoming students will receive 41 credits for having gained licensure as a registered nurse through either a college/university* or hospital diploma program*. Students may also transfer a total of 49 other credits from their former school*.
The BSN Completion Program itself consists of 30 credits, all of which must be taken at UMW.
A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 on all UMW work is required. Students planning to continue on to graduate-level nursing education are advised to aim for a 3.0 or higher. For more detail on this program, please also see this informational flyer.
120 CREDITS FOR THE BSN DEGREE MUST INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING
- 41 cr RN Licensure
- 12 cr Science (must include Anatomy and Physiology)
- 6 cr English Composition
- 6 cr Social Sciences (must include an introductory Sociology or Psychology course)
- 3 cr Humanities
- 3 cr Statistics
- 19 cr General Electives (or however many elective credits are needed in order to bring student’s total up to 120)
- 30 cr BSN Completion Program (these 10 courses must be taken at UMW)
